At the office of Living and Working, we ensure that new ideas are born, developed, and implemented within culture, business, and leisure. We listen, guide, engage, shape meeting places and stories. The Culture and Leisure Department contributes to community building with a focus on health, living environment, and collaboration. The department works to offer an attractive range of culture, leisure, and sports. Regardless of age, background, and conditions, everyone should be able to thrive and grow in the municipality's various cultural and leisure activities and at our various meeting places. The department is responsible for sports and outdoor facilities, association support, venue booking, cultural venues, trails and paths, libraries, open youth activities, and cultural schools.
The department's operations are a developing activity, and here you will have the opportunity to influence development by contributing your knowledge and making improvement suggestions. Together with colleagues, you will focus on designing effective and sustainable working methods for operations that provide value for residents and the environment in Nykvarn. You will have fixed working hours, but weekend and evening work will occur. We view positively if you have an interest in sports and/or an interest in civil society as the work will take place close to the association life.
As a facility caretaker, you contribute to creating a well-maintained and pleasant environment for the municipality's residents with the goal of contributing to a meaningful leisure time. You will primarily be responsible for supervision, maintenance, and repairs of the municipality's sports and outdoor areas. The role includes various caretaker and operational tasks, including the operation and maintenance of our facilities, parks and natural areas, outdoor areas, and outdoor baths. This may include lawn mowing, maintenance of artificial turf fields and public areas, property services, cleaning, waste management, repairs, maintenance, snow removal, and ice resurfacing. As a facility caretaker, you meet the residents of Nykvarn daily and are a face to the public, so good service and a friendly demeanor are a given for you. The work requires high flexibility and your ability to communicate with the users and customers of the facilities. You are persistent, work independently, and enjoy working outdoors regardless of the weather as most of the work is outdoors. You enjoy collaborating in a team with colleagues and have the ability to easily adapt to changing tasks and priorities.
Your tasks will vary throughout the year and will include, among other things:
- Supervision and maintenance of swimming areas, hiking trails, lifesaving equipment, outdoor gyms, etc.
- Maintenance of sports areas and repairs of park and playground equipment
- Minor facility jobs such as paving, excavation, assembly of play and park equipment
- Carpentry and painting work
- Maintenance of green areas, such as lawn mowing and weed removal
- Pruning of trees and shrubs
- Hedge trimming
- Planting of trees, shrubs, perennials
- Cleaning
- Operation of artificial turf fields
- Managing purchases, orders, and simpler procurements
Nykvarn Municipality is a Finnish administrative area, and we consider it an advantage if you speak Finnish.
For this position, you must have a B driver's license. (BE and C driver's licenses are advantageous).
We require you to present a criminal record extract before employment.
We are looking for someone who has:
- High school education in areas such as facility management, construction, or horticulture, or other education that the employer deems equivalent and suitable for the position.
- Documented and current experience in facility management and practical work with green area maintenance as well as operation and maintenance of sports areas and hiking trails.
- Experience and authorization for the use of chainsaws class AB and brush cutters class RA, current experience working with riding lawn mowers and handheld machines such as trimmers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers, and training in playground safety, SS-EN 1176 and SS-EN 16630 for outdoor gyms.
- B driver's license for passenger cars.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Knowledge of and interest in working environmentally consciously with sustainability issues.
- Experience and knowledge of nature conservation maintenance, mechanical skills, and machine operation (loader, tractor, lawn mower, etc.).
- Experience with digital tools in operations.
- Experience working in sports and outdoor facilities.
- Training in Work on the Road level 1 and 2, Hot Work, and experience in metalworking.
